Bridging Design, Arts, and Technology for Solving Complex Problems

The Experience Design Network at CMU: cross-campus education and research initiatives in media design, mediated learning and intelligent environments

Carnegie Mellon University is one of the few institutions in the world with high-level expertise in three key areas of hybrid experience design: experience creation, social analysis and technology development. CMU is poised to be an international leader in the design and implementation of hybrid physical-digital systems for solving complex problems. Such systems are more effective when developed by interdisciplinary groups that can tackle the complete generated experience. Thanassis Rikakis, vice provost for design, arts and technology, will present working plans for the development of cross-CMU education and research initiatives in experience and design with focus on three component themes in which CMU excels: media design, mediated learning and intelligent environments. Rikakis joined CMU this fall from Arizona State University, and the announcement can be read here.
